Raphaël Cuomo, Maria Iorio: Twisted Realism

40 pages
English / Italian
21 x 15 cm
€ 5,00

In 2009, during a residency in Rome, Raphaël Cuomo and Maria Iorio undertook an interesting investigation into the history of Tuscolano, a neighborhood built in the ’50s to house thousands of immigrants from Southern Italy, which served as a backdrop for Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Mamma Roma and other classic Neorealist films. Starting with Pasolini’s film, this Geneva-based duo’s project tackles the themes of Italian migration, the problems of the South, and the empty promises of real estate planning (or speculation) in that period. The booklet, created for the exhibition at the La Rada space in Locarno, presents the project through a series of archival images and historic documents that try to shed light on the many different aesthetics of the world around us.
