Published for Emanuele Becheri’s solo show at MAN in Nuoro, this monograph edited by Saretto Cincinelli and Chris Sharp offers an extraordinary critical analysis of the artist’s work. From his “Rilasci” series — large, crumpled sheets of paper, hung from one end inside a frame and forced by gravity back into their original shape — to the drawings in “Shining” (2007) — large sheets of black paper crisscrossed with the silvery streaks left by snails — to his burnt objects, all the way to the “Hauntology” series that lends the exhibition its title — photos of ripped scraps of paper lying on a spiderweb, rendered enigmatic by the angle of the shot — a dominant motif emerges: the artist’s attempt to reduce his own manual intervention, letting the works be autonomously generated, with only a minimal perturbation of space. In addition to the texts by Cincinelli and Sharp, the catalogue includes photographic illustrations and an album – like series of inserted photos that alternate with the text.
