“Add Fire is the beautiful, incendiary title that Jimmie Durham has chosen for the ninth Premio Furla […]: its true focus is the burning need for renewal that all of us feel can be put off no longer. And if we look at the image of the burning flame that Jimmie Durham has drawn to accompany the title, another facet emerges: aside from the urge to action that is inherent in Add Fire, the theme of flame is linked to the state of peace, vigil, daydream and meditation we find in any room where a candle is burning.” – Chiara Bertola
Conceived as a compilation of five monographs, the catalogue for the 9th edition of Premio Furla constitutes a unique resource for discovering and understanding the work of each of the Prize finalists: Tomaso De Luca (selected by Ilaria Gianni and Alice Motard), Chiara Fumai (selected by Stefano Collicelli Cagol and Bart van der Heide), Invernomuto (selected by Filipa Ramos and Elena Filipovic), Davide Stucchi (selected by Francesco Garutti and Yann Chateigné Tytelman), and Diego Tonus (selected by Vincenzo Latronico and Fanny Gonella). Each monograph is introduced by a critical text or a conversation between the selecting curators, and accompanied by an extended selection of the artists’ most emblematic works. Premio Furla is now recognized as the ultimate Italian prize in support of young Italian contemporary artists, with a format focusing on the production of new works.
