Simone Menegoi, ed.

The collected work of H.C. represents the outcome of the workshop Meaning of Things, XIX CSAV – Artists Research Laboratory, which took place during the month of July 2013 at the Fondazione Antonio Ratti, in Como. The workshop, led by Matt Mullican and directed by Annie Ratti, addressed several key themes of Mullican’s work, including his ongoing investigation of different states of consciousness through the use of hypnosis and the work of That Person, Mullican’s alter ego during a trancelike state. Embracing the spirit of an artistic laboratory and using elements of Mullican’s work as a starting point, the participating artists (Riccardo Beretta, Crystal Z Campbell, Luca De Leva, Iris Dittler, Fredrik Enges, Sara Enrico, Patricia Fernandez, Tony Fiorentino, Kira Freije, Thomas Lee-Steere, Daniele Maffeis, Bridget Moser, and Georgia Wall) created a collective alter ego, the artist H.C., whose artworks are collected in this publication. The book, conceived as a collaborative work, offers to the reader a view of H.C.’s practice and many insights regarding his private life. It includes a contribution by Simone Menegoi, curator of the laboratory.
