The sixth limited-edition fanzine put out by Mousse Publishing for ar/ge kunst presents the work of Rashaad Newsome, an American artist who explores issues surrounding cultural identity. The booklet presents some of most significant works by this artist, who uses anthropological approach to overturn the common conception that sees “throwing shade”, the gestural language of African-American women, as a sign of social marginalization, shedding light on the sophisticated nature of the gestures associated with black women.
